This course provides students with the ability to recognise and treat the four main life threatening conditions :

  • Heart Attack
  • Cardiac Arrest
  • FBOA (Choking)
  • Stroke

Content

Candidates learn how to recognise the signs and symptoms of Cardiac Arrest, Foreign Body Airway Obstruction, Stroke and Heart Attack. Upon course completion candidates will be fully competent in the operation of an AED, Adult, Child and Infant CPR as well as in the treatment of Stroke and Heart Attack Patients. This course includes the administration of Asprin. The Cardiac First Responder course is delivered over 4.5 hours.

The max. number of candidates per instructor is 6 as strongly recommended by the IHF. This ensures that each candidate receives personal tuition, and constantly performs the required skills ensuing confidence in the candidate.

Instructor
The course Instructor(s) will be an Emergency Medical Technician (Paramedic) who will also be registered as a Basic Life Support (BLS) Instructor with the Irish Heart Foundation and the American Heart Association.
Textbook / Certification
All candidates will receive a copy of the American Heart Association Heartsaver AED textbook and thr PHECC Cardiac First Responder Textbook. This is a requirement of the IHF to enhance the learning process. Successful candidates will be issued with an IHF/AHA course completion card which is valid for 2 years. In addition each candidate will receive a Cardiac First Responder Certificate from PHECC. This ensures that the candidate receives international certification recognised worldwide.
